lyrics

The Gazebo Effect (as first defined by Albert Gully in 1946).

Dr Gully was Chief Medical Officer at Cranswick Hall Hospital in Dorset. The 18th Century Hall had been requisitioned by the Home Office for the convalescence of soldiers suffering from traumatic injuries sustained in the Second World War.

The idea of music as a healing influence which can affect health and mood goes back to the writings of Aristotle and Plato.

Dr Gully recruited amateur and professional musicians to come and play for the patients. Following these visits such were the improvements in their physical and emotional responses that the musicians were hired on a regular basis.

As the patients were taken out and entertained from the Gazebo in the hospital grounds, the term the ‘Gazebo Effect’ was coined by the staff  who observed the feel good factor displayed following these visits.

More recently neurological studies into the phenomenon have conclusively shown  significant changes in cerebral blood flow and an acceleration in production of serotonin in patients responding to the Gazebo Effect.

And so we reach this point in time.

We invite you to take part in our little experiment.

Test the theory for yourselves.

In these times of gloom and recession, darkness and depression, float away with us in this small bubble of sunshine.

Come in and enjoy the Gazebo Effect……………..
